Bucharest - Sitaru - Snagov - Bucharest
In the morning at 9AM you’ll meet your guide in the hotel’s lobby.
You’ll leave straight toward Sitaru village, 35 km north of Bucharest. Here you’ll have a first contact with the rural life. Driving on the roads of the village you’ll reach a monastery built in the 18th century. Hidden by a forest, some time ago surrounded by a small lake, the Sitaru monastery, dedicated to St. Nicholas, could be a first contact with the “Last Judgment” fresco, painted on the walls of the porch.
You’ll continue with Snagov church, one of the most famous churches outside ofRomania due to Vlad the Impaler. Located on an island of Snagov Lake (about 40km North from Bucharest), the church was built during the time of Prince Mircea the Elder or even earlier. Surrounded by defensive walls, protected by a watching tower, used also as a belfry, the church looked as a real fortress. It seems that here Vlad the Impaler was buried. Even today you can admire his grave.
Once again back to Bucharest, you’ll visit the Village Museum. Open for the first time in 1936, the museum includes different constructions like old traditional houses, annexes, churches, wind and water mills and handicraft workshops.
After the lunch, driving toward the Revolution Square, you’ll admire the Triumphant Arch built in 1936, the beautifulKisseleff Boulevard with its splendid houses and Victory Boulevard with its houses, shops and museums.
In the Revolution Square you’ll stop to admire the Romanian Athenaeum built in 1888 in Neoclassical style, theCentral University Library and the Art Museum, the former Royal Palace. Also, you’ll get explications about the anticommunist revolution.
Next stop is the Parliament House, the largest administrative building in Europe, second in the world. Built between 1984 and 1989, right in the former historical center of Bucharest, The Parliament Palace, better known as The House of People, is the most grandiose administrative construction in Europe.
The last visit of this tour is the old center of Bucharest where you’ll visit the Old Princely Court with its church – the oldest building of Bucharest, the Manuc’s Inn, the Stavropoleos church and the quaint old streets, alleys and buildings.
