Medias
Medias Located on the course of Tarnava Mare River, Medias, Mediasch in German, is the second city of Sibiu county. This locality was founded in the 12th-13th centuries by the Hungarian kings who sent the Germans to populate this area. Today, Medias has 55000 people.

Margareta church is the most important landmark of the city. Its tower (68.5 m in height) is the symbol of the Medias town and is one of the most inclined towers in Europe.
It is an imposing construction placed in the centre of the medieval fortifications complex and it is also known under the name of “castle”. The church was built at the end of the 15th century and has a 17th century organ which still works. The altar, made in 1480 in Gothic style, shows Jesus’ sufferings. It is to be mentioned that under Jesus’ arm a panoramic view of Vienna was painted, proprably to show that the altar was made in Vienna. Parts of the inside walls are covered by original frescoes. Another interesting aspect is the baptismal font which is the oldest one in Romania.
