Cisnadioara
Cisnadioara (Cisnadioara)
Located only 6km from Sibiu, Cisnadioara is well known especially because of the fortified Saxon church.
The Cisnadioara Church, placed on top of a mound, 70m high and called Dealul Cetatii (the Fortress' Hill), is a Romanesque basilica built around 1200. The western portal in steps is remarkable. On the East side, the church has three semicircular niches. The church, without altar, pews or other religious objects, displays a number of funeral plates which belongs to the German, Austrian and Hungarian soldiers who died in the First World War.
The top of the hill, on which the church is located, was fortified with a wall with notches.
An important natural monument lies at the entry in village, representing a lime stone as old as 65 millions years.
