Cisnadie
Cisnadie (Cisnadie)
With its evangelic and orthodox churches, and having a museum of the textile
industry, the small town Cisnadie, placed 8km South-west of Sibiu, at the foot of Magura Mountain, represents an interesting tourist spot. Founded by the Saxon colonists, in the same time with Sibiu, it was named at the beginning Rivetel.
The Evangelic Church, erected at the beginning of the 12th century like
a Romanesque basilica with 3 naves, is dedicated to St. Walpurga. Modified many times, the church lost its Romanesque aspect, today looking like a church built in Gothic style. It has many towers, among them being the Watchman's Tower, the Town Hall's Tower and School's Tower. Inside the church a bell since 1664, a font and the gates of the old altar made in Baroque style are kept.
In 1591 the bell tower was modified, its actual shape dating back since 1751. Damaged by a lightning, the bell tower receives a lightning rod in 1795, the first one in Transylvania.
The organ was completely damaged by the fire in 1942 and it was replaced by a new one.
The Textile Industry Museum was founded in 1974 and it exhibits the real history of The Romanian wool handicraft. The museum exhibits different tools used in the wool processing.
