Brasov - Mountains
Brasov is surrounded by many mountains, being a starting point toward these places. Mountains like Tampa, Postavaru, Piatra Mare, Bucegi, Piatra Craiului and Ciucas are one of the most beautiful mountains from Romania.
Tampa Mountain (Muntele Tampa)
Every tourist should take the cable car from Brasov to Tampa Mountain. From here, the Tampa Mountain (960m), placed 360m over the town, shows a breathtaking scenery that deserves many minutes of contemplation. Also, during its history, the Tampa Mountain was used as a political symbol. Between 1950-1959 the statue of Stalin lasted on the Tampa Mountain. It was built in the place of another political statue that represented Arpad, the Hungarian ruler. |
Poiana Brasov Resort (Statiunea Poiana Brasov)
Located 13km far from Brasov at the foot of the Postavarul Mare Mountain, Poiana Brasov is surrounded by the forests, being the best winter sport resort in Romania. Founded in 1895, the resort is a peaceful oasis where you can easily forget the town worries. In summer, the tourists can make a mountain trip in Postavarul Mountain or surroundings by guiding after the numerous marked routes; they can also choose to follow savage paths in order to discover the real untamed nature.
Four main mountains surround Poiana Brasov: Postavarul (1,799 m), Piatra Craiului (2,238 m), Bucegi (2,505 m) and Piatra Mare (1,848 m).
Bucegi Mountains (Muntii Bucegi)
Bucegi Mountains are considered to be the paradise of the mountaineering, having tens of mountain routes from the easiest to the most difficult. Having splendid glacier valleys - Jepilor Valley, Malaesti Valley, Cerbului Valley, to remember just few, the longest cable car from country (3rd in Europe), the Ialomita Cave with its monastery, and many chalets, the Bucegi Mountain worth the effort to be seen.

Piatra Mare Mountains (Muntii Piatra Mare)
Piatra Mare is a special mountain. Without being a high mountain, the highest peak is just 1843, Piatra Mare is easy to be crossed. The main entrance to this mountain is Dambu Morii chalet, located on the Prahova Valley. Among the main tourist attractions are 7 Stairs Canyon, Sipoaia Valley and Bears' Cave.

Piatra Craiului Mountain (Muntele Piatra Craiului)
Piatra Craiului (Kink's Stone) is the only mountain from Romania which is much higher then the rest of the surroundings. The main attraction of this mountain is its ridge long for about 22km. From here the scenery is amazing. Other tourist attractions are Dambovicioarei Gorges with its cave and Prapastiile Zarnestilor, a gorge long for about 4km.
